7 Things Sunday… Ocean Springs, Ms … 7.20.25
Hey good people, how’s it going? Happy Sunday!
It’s been a minute but let’s not dwell on that, I’m about to be spamming ya’ll the next couple of weeks so lock in!
This week’s post is all about our girls trip to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, a little getaway that gave us sunshine, sand (a little murky water), and a whole new corner of the South to explore.
Let’s get into it.
1. Why Ocean Springs
I first heard about Ocean Springs from a friend a couple of months ago, and it stuck in my mind. When another friend and I were tossing around vacation ideas, I figured—why not?
It’s about 4 1/2 hours from us and 1 hour away from Mobile, AL where my friend, Mindy lives who I was desperate to spend time with. What I didn’t realize was how close it is to Biloxi. I blinked, saw a bridge, crossed it, and boom—“Welcome to Biloxi!”
2. We Stayed at The Porter Villas
We booked a two-bedroom condo at The Porter Villas, which gave major “revamped apartment complex” vibes. Not brand new, but clean and well redone. Located in a walkable, revitalized part of town, it had everything we needed:
✔️ Cozy beds
✔️ Spacious kitchen + large island
✔️ TVs in every room
✔️ Deep tub the girls loved
✔️ Clean from top to bottom
Only downside? The single-bathroom layout wasn’t ideal for 5 girls and being on the bottom floor, we heard everything from upstairs neighbors. I’d still give it a solid 8/10.
3. What We Did
Ocean Springs is small, but there’s a good bit to do:
- The beach was just a five-minute drive—shallow, calm, and super family-friendly.
- There’s a yacht club, a splash pad-style playground, and lots of sidewalk charm.
- We thrifted at America’s Thrift Store and the Goodwill Supercenter (the largest in Mississippi!).
- The downtown area was full of little shops and places to explore—though not many drive-thru options, which we missed after long, hot days.
4. What I wish we did
I wish I would have looked up what to do in the town. Normally I do but we were living solely on Apple Maps vibes.
Y’all, we accidentally discovered the Biloxi Bay Bridge while driving near the Yacht Club. The Biloxi Bay Bridge is pedestrian-friendly and reminded me of a mini Brooklyn Bridge.
You can walk all the way across into Biloxi, where the city lights up with casinos, a Ferris wheel, and that touristy sparkle. The girls were in awe.
5. The water …
The water? Murky. Not the pretty clear kind.
It discolored all our swimsuits (nothing a little spray and wash can’t fix), but still—not what I was expecting.
That said, the shallow water made it super safe for little ones. We walked out far, and it still didn’t go past our knees.
6. Tourist life or nah?
That was the big question during our trip. Is Ocean Springs a full-time community or a tourist town? Honestly, I think it’s both.
There were signs advertising condos starting at $189K, and some neighbors clearly lived there full-time. But the area definitely has that walkable, beach-town energy that makes it great for vacationing, too.
7. Would I Go Back?
Absolutely. Now that I know what to expect, I’d love to go again. Ocean Springs is laid-back, and just quirky enough to feel like a fun discovery. It’s close, easy, and filled with those little Southern details.
