7 Things Sunday… Summer you’ve been different… 7.27.25

Hey good people, how’s it going? Happy Sunday!

Summer is somehow already wrapping up—and I’m over here like, how?! This one felt different. Not bad, not rushed, just… unfamiliar. Here are 7 reasons why.

1. No SOAR, No Daycare, No Rhythm

This year threw our usual summer structure out the window.

We didn’t have the school-based SOAR program. My girls didn’t go to the daycare they’ve spent most of their lives in.

Instead, they went to the city rec center for about four weeks (shoutout to that 9–2 schedule), and now they’re in tumble camp for the last bit of July. That still leaves August wide open, and mama is over here trying to figure it out.

I saw a volleyball camp at West Monroe Event Center—might try that for one—but that still means one kid stays home. So, yeah… different.

2. Swim Lessons Looked New This Year

Normally, swim lessons happen at daycare because the pool is already built into their day. But with no daycare this summer, I had to find something new.

We found a new instructor, and while it was very last-minute, it worked. This is year seven for my oldest in swim lessons and year six for my middle.

It was a shift, but a good one. Just another reminder that flexibility is the name of the game this season.

3. Two Vacations = A First

This is a big deal for us—we actually took two vacations this summer!

We kicked things off at OKANA in Oklahoma (indoor + outdoor water park), and later headed to Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Usually, we’re hitting lakes, beaches, and splash pads at state parks… but this year we made it to the lake once. And it wasn’t even all of us. Life’s been full, weekends have been busy, and after we got our own pool (see #4 👇🏽), we weren’t pressed.

4. We got a pool at the house

I caught a 14x33 pool from Walmart on sale for $198 and jumped on it. It was at a Walmart about 45 mins away and my homie, Brady, picked it up for me.  Thanks Homie!

We also added more swings in the yard and have tried to give the girls more to do out there so we can get all of various products completed.

5. The weird weather
We haven’t even hit 100 degrees, y’all. And I’m not complaining—but I’m confused. This is July and I fully expected it to be over 100 by now.

It’s hot, sure, but not miserable. We’ve still been able to enjoy being outside, which has been refreshing… and a little strange. Not quite the Louisiana summer I expected.

6. Banter with children

I told the girls the other day, “I wish we had a coastline and park like Ocean Springs.”

They hit back fast:

“We have the beach.”

Me: “We don’t really have a beach.”

Them: “We have the lake.”

Me: “Not nearby.”

Them: “But we have the zoo.”

Touché.

We usually keep a zoo membership, but ours expired in June. And truthfully, we didn’t even use it much last year. I’m not rushing to renew it.

Also—with kids so spaced out in age—one wants to climb and run, the other wants to cuddle under mama. It’s a lot. I’m trying, but whew…

7. Imagination? Low. Energy? Meh.

Can we talk about imagination burnout?

My oldest gets on the monkey bars, grabs the first bar… and drops. Every. Single. Time.

She has the strength. The swing is there. She just gives up.

Mamas—how are y’all handling this? What’s helping your littles push through when something doesn’t come easily? I’d love to hear your tips. I know talking about the monkey bars is silly but I just feel like if it follows you in play it will follow you in everything else you do.

Okay so mamas

• Any last-minute vacations coming up?

• Have you started back-to-school shopping yet?

• Are y’all hitting the lakes or parks before summer’s over?

I have finished school supply shopping early (praise!). As for clothes—I shop all year. Unless Old Navy does me right with a clearance drop, we’re pretty much set.

Hope everyone gets what they need in time !
