7 Things Sunday... Tag you're it...8.18.25
Hey good people, how’s it going? Happy Sunday!
Summer is officially wrapped. The first week of school is behind us and mamas, we made it ! I don’t know how, but we did it.
Here's my 7 things..
1. This year’s start was a little different. My big one went from teacher meet-and-greet one day straight into a full school day the next. That was swift and very different from years past. My little did meet-and-greet on Tuesday which was alphabetized, and then skipped a day then ended out the week with two full days.
The beginning of the school year makes me nervous.
Wondering:
• Who are these teachers?
• Will they like my kids?
• Do they love teaching and actually love children?
But y’all, so far, it’s been nothing short of amazing. Truly. Shoutout to the Ouachita Parish School Board and the schools my girls are blessed to attend.

2.- 7. To celebrate making it through the week, we took a little trip to the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo. We even brought a friend along! Believe it or not, this was our first zoo visit all year. And let me tell you: I was impressed.
The updates and little touches made me proud of our zoo. The splash pad was Pumping! The water was on full blast, and the kids loved every second of it. It still looks just as good as the first time we saw it.
What’s New
I noticed some changes since our last visit:
• A fresh butterfly garden.
• A gorgeous pergola.
• And honestly? I saw more animals than I have in a while.
Our zoo is growing. I’m excited for what’s to come.
For four of us, the cost was $31. From what I remembered, the admission was always around $4.50 a person, so I need to double-check their website. i'm not mad, but I feel misinformed.
If you don’t know, the zoo is extra special to me because it inspired one of my books: Mae and McKinley: Let’s Go to the Zoo. Writing it came from documenting our family’s experience, and you can find it on Amazon or right here on my website .
Mamas, I hope you’re being kind to yourself. I hope the return of school brings back a little bit of structure and stability to your days.
If you need more of me, I'm on YouTube at Trapped in the South and on Instagram at @TrappedInTheSouthLA. And of course, every Sunday, you can find me here on the blog.
Don’t be shy, let’s be social.
