Lock In: Dream Bigger and Get It Done
Hey, how’s it going? Happy Wednesday!
I got something that’s really heavy on my heart, and I have to do it in a way that makes sense but also serves the purpose.
So if you follow me on Instagram at @trappedinthesouthla, you know that I had a really big conversation last week about how church has really been in my business.
And when I say that, I mean that in a good way.
The things that are being preached are really hitting home.
Something that we talked about Sunday was having dreams, being in a circle with people who are dreamers, and just having trusted people who encourage you.
It’s cool to have dreams that are base-level or attainable dreams, but why not dream the biggest dream? Have the big, overwhelming, overarching dreams and watch the journey of you and God bringing those dreams to life.
Guys, my whole life is a dream.
My whole life is a dream.
Now, hear me say, I’m not telling you that, like, “Oh, my life has been so peachy keen. It’s been great.”
I hope to lay it all out in some way that makes sense to just the everyday person. But none of this I did on my own.
I did put one foot in front of the other, though.
And there are some points where God had to just, like, pick me up and say, “Okay, right here. Go.”
I think this year I felt like I kind of got to a point where I was like, “Girl, you did enough. Take a break. Take a rest. Everybody else is resting. Shouldn’t you be resting too?”
And so I got to that place where I was like, “I'm done”
Thankfully, I recognized it. The fact that I recognize that I’m not being me. I’m not being the person who I desire to be. I am being the person that makes everyone around me comfortable, which I don't like if I am not working towards my goals. Dreaming is my norm and I let other people change my idea of how much I should be doing.
But I know one thing: I’m not going to keep dwelling on what I didn’t do or how when it mattered I let things pass me by.
But I’m going to tell you this:
I’m going to be prepared for the next time somebody says, “Hey, Alisa, you should do X, Y, Z.”
And if it’s something within my wheelhouse and when I say my wheelhouse, I mean that it stands for the mission of who I am and who I aspire to be I’m going to say yes.
I’m going to let it bring me through an experience instead of watching somebody else’s experience.
So what is the moral of today’s blog? Today is officially September 2nd.
We have four months until the end of the year.
Are you where you said you were going to be when January 1st hit?
Are you where you said you were going to be March 1st?
Are you where you said you were going to be May 25th?
Because if you’re like me, I am not.
I’m not where I said I was going to be.
I haven’t finished the things that I said that I wanted to finish. I haven’t started some other things that I wanted to start.
And I have no one to blame but myself.
So I am going to lock in.
I’m going to assign myself five tasks each week for the month of September, and if I get at least three of those five tasks done, I’m going to erase the feeling that I have about not coming into 2026 and taking it over the way I wanted to.
Okay?
You are only letting down yourself for the tasks that you did not complete for yourself.
No one else is to blame but yourself.
Because how many times did you pick up your phone and scroll instead of getting out a pen and a notebook and writing down what you were supposed to do?
Why did you work overtime to complete somebody else’s goal list when yours is sitting there empty?
But you want to complain about how you don’t want to be doing X, Y, Z for the rest of your life.
Who are you to blame when you are not feeling fulfilled?
When you’re feeling empty?
Exactly.
So lock in.
Get it done.
And then let’s talk about it next week.
Okay?
Okay.
That’s all I got.
Don’t be shy, let’s be social.
